[kind of curious, but goes back to his own work]

[ he's settled himself on a stool, the only noise coming from his direction the scratches and occasional sweeps of the pencil on paper ]

[now that he's been reminded that Steve is there, he's quiet. No talking to himself anymore, just the whirring from his tools]

[ still, he doesn't make any other sounds for a long time ]

[okay then, eventually he starts typing on the computer and starts talking to this Jarvis person again]

[ and a little while after that . . . Steve's not looking up from his drawing, though his hand moves around the page as though putting in the final touches, so his voice is quiet in a distracted sort of way. ]

How smart is Jarvis?

Not very right now. Camp shut down over half of his functions.

[pokes the computer screen]

I hope you're as frustrated as I am, JARVIS.

So he's . . . a computer, uh, program?

A computer program that can learn, yeah.

[turns towards him]

Uh... Have you read any science fiction? Isaac Asimov?

Know I read some. Wasn't always much else to do before the war but go to the library. Don't recall that particular name, though.

[ still finishing up the drawing, but in a less absorbed way ]

Back in my day we used to eat the stuff at the movies by the handful.

[plugging it in and getting some microwave popcorn]

Don't use one of these without supervision. And uh, it's gonna start popping in about a minute.

I have one at my place, you know.

[ he just won't mention that he still mostly uses the stove ]

To be fair, I'm not sure SHIELD ought to be trying to teach anyone how to be a normal person.

Maybe my standards are too high, but they seem pretty dumb for an intelligence agency.

[and after a couple of minutes he takes the bag out and tosses it to Steve]

Careful, it's hot.

[ thank goodness for these supersoldier reflexes otherwise I'd have dropped my pencil!! he catches the bag and turns it around so as to properly read the instructions. ]

Just open it. It won't blow up or anything.
