Steve is (completely accidentally) slowing down Tony's descent into anxiety attacks and full-blown PTSD by Steve-ing along. NOT THAT TONY IS REMOTELY AWARE OF THIS. BUT YANNO. IT'S A THING AND IT'S HELPFUL.
He actually really likes Steve now, much to his surprise. He appreciates Steve being around because Steve is very solid, and reliable, and Tony needs that in his life even if he won't admit to it. AFTER THAT LAST THREAD he's done wondering why the hell Steve seeks him out and now he'll just roll with it. FINE ROGERS YOU DRAW IN YOUR CORNER WHILE I TRY TO TEACH MY BOT HOW TO TIE SHOELACES.
Tony has so many issues, though. He prides himself on being self-reliant, so admitting to needing things from other people is really, really hard for him. Which is probably why he'll go a week without sleeping and have like four panic attacks before he'll seek out help. BUT WHENEVER HE DOES SEEK OUT HELP it'll probably be from Steve, since out of the Avengers Steve is bizarrely the one he's the most comfortable with. If Barnes weren't... a future cyborg assassin dude, Tony would probably have brought up how much of a mess he is already, but he knows Bucky's issues are big and take precedence and figures Steve is overloaded as it is. HOW DO YOU COPE WITH BFF IS ALIVE AND ALSO AN ASSASSIN CYBORG? So he's avoiding PTSD talk partly out of spoiled child mentality of I CAN DO EVERYTHING ON MY OWN, combined with not wanting to be seen as someone fragile, and partly because Steve has bigger fish to fry and Steve's such a mother-hen and also it's not like anyone can do anything about it anyway, even if he made a public announcement about it. (Tony could rationalize his way out of having a sip of water in the middle of the desert while dying of thirst if he really wanted to.)
What else. Uh uuuuh, he really appreciates that Steve is on the same page as him in pretty much every major point of conflict in the team and he actually thinks of him as team leader. Which is another bizarre point for him because he's not usually one to follow, but yeah okay, Steve is team leader and Tony is at least 25% more likely to listen to him than he normally would be.
ALSO HE GAVE BUCKY A USB WITH MOVIES SO YOU GUYS CAN CATCH UP WITH THE TIMES THROUGH LATE NIGHT DATES.
AND FINALLY ON STEVE AND BUCKY. He knows it's coming, he's entertained by them not seeing it coming. He guesses Steve sees Bucky as a gift from fate or something, and assumes Steve is ready to do everything in his power to keep Bucky safe. He can relate because that's how he sees Pepper, so yeah, the embodiment of American values is ending up in a gay relationship. The press is gonna have a field day with that.
