Steve is (completely accidentally) slowing down Tony's descent into anxiety attacks and full-blown PTSD by Steve-ing along. NOT THAT TONY IS REMOTELY AWARE OF THIS. BUT YANNO. IT'S A THING AND IT'S HELPFUL.
He actually really likes Steve now, much to his surprise. He appreciates Steve being around because Steve is very solid, and reliable, and Tony needs that in his life even if he won't admit to it. AFTER THAT LAST THREAD he's done wondering why the hell Steve seeks him out and now he'll just roll with it. FINE ROGERS YOU DRAW IN YOUR CORNER WHILE I TRY TO TEACH MY BOT HOW TO TIE SHOELACES.
Tony has so many issues, though. He prides himself on being self-reliant, so admitting to needing things from other people is really, really hard for him. Which is probably why he'll go a week without sleeping and have like four panic attacks before he'll seek out help. BUT WHENEVER HE DOES SEEK OUT HELP it'll probably be from Steve, since out of the Avengers Steve is bizarrely the one he's the most comfortable with. If Barnes weren't... a future cyborg assassin dude, Tony would probably have brought up how much of a mess he is already, but he knows Bucky's issues are big and take precedence and figures Steve is overloaded as it is. HOW DO YOU COPE WITH BFF IS ALIVE AND ALSO AN ASSASSIN CYBORG? So he's avoiding PTSD talk partly out of spoiled child mentality of I CAN DO EVERYTHING ON MY OWN, combined with not wanting to be seen as someone fragile, and partly because Steve has bigger fish to fry and Steve's such a mother-hen and also it's not like anyone can do anything about it anyway, even if he made a public announcement about it. (Tony could rationalize his way out of having a sip of water in the middle of the desert while dying of thirst if he really wanted to.)
What else. Uh uuuuh, he really appreciates that Steve is on the same page as him in pretty much every major point of conflict in the team and he actually thinks of him as team leader. Which is another bizarre point for him because he's not usually one to follow, but yeah okay, Steve is team leader and Tony is at least 25% more likely to listen to him than he normally would be.
ALSO HE GAVE BUCKY A USB WITH MOVIES SO YOU GUYS CAN CATCH UP WITH THE TIMES THROUGH LATE NIGHT DATES.
AND FINALLY ON STEVE AND BUCKY. He knows it's coming, he's entertained by them not seeing it coming. He guesses Steve sees Bucky as a gift from fate or something, and assumes Steve is ready to do everything in his power to keep Bucky safe. He can relate because that's how he sees Pepper, so yeah, the embodiment of American values is ending up in a gay relationship. The press is gonna have a field day with that.
Tony wants very badly to know more about alchemy because it looks like it has rules, and holy shit does he love it when seemingly magical stuff has to follow rules.
He SUSPECTS Al's armor is empty because there's some crazy soul possessing a high-tech armor out there, so he has a precedent for it. Also, Al sounds tiny and the armor sounds hollow so. But he's not particularly eager to confirm his suspicions because "I'm a soul trapped in an armor." Is probably not the most comfortable talk for the kids and Tony doesn't think he could do anything about it even if he had all the facts.
That aside Al seems like a really sweet kid (and he does register as 'kid' with Tony) reasonable younger brother while Ed is the loud abrasive one. He has neutral to positive feelings towards him and he'd show Al all of his toys if he showed any interest. Tony loves to show off. /o/ MY ARMOR IS SUPER COOL AL IT'S MADE OF A GOLD-TITANIUM ALLOY.
ALSO AND SLIGHTLY UNRELATED he's thrilled about knowing people who can make badassium (that's what he calls his new element) because it is a pain when he has to synthesize it himself.
That aside, he thinks Bucky is a decent guy. TONY'S THREAD WITH NATASHA WAS ACTUALLY VERY ENLIGHTENING RE: Tony's thoughts on Bucky. (THANK YOU AGENT ROMANOFF) Bucky got dealt a really shitty hand and he's been a lot more reasonable about it than Tony would have been, and Tony respects that. Also, even though Bucky is snarky and such, he's clearly a good guy who's doing as best as he can.
Tony likes him, even without the "STEVE ROGERS' BOYFRIEND" association, he'd like him and try to help him. The Steve Rogers association just makes it more relevant, he's been working on an arm but he's not ready to show it to Bucky because it's sort of jumping the gun. JESUS STARK I HAVEN'T EVEN LOST IT YET, but he'll totes have a working prosthesis by the time Bucky goes cyborg.
HE ALSO APPRECIATES BUCKY'S LACK OF NAGGING RE: SLEEPING HABITS. BUT ONLY BECAUSE HE DOESN'T KNOW THAT BUCKY TURNED AROUND AND TOLD NATASHA ABOUT THEM.
SO IN SUMMARY. Tony likes him, is surprised by how put-together he is, and enjoys his company in general. HE'S ALSO REALLY HONESTLY SORRY ABOUT THAT FUCKING BEAR and is glad Bucky didn't seem all that angry about it.
Tony is really really really bad with kids. He can deal with them when they just want an autograph and a picture, but actual conversations with children aren't things he feels particularly capable of doing. So Jade has been sort of a surprise, at least in that he doesn't seem to have messed up with her yet.
He likes her, but he finds himself at a loss with her a lot because he doesn't want to be an authority figure and he has no idea of what Jade expects from him. Basically HOW DOES I CHILDREN AND WHY IS CHILD TALKING TO ME??
FELIX GAVE HIM A SANDWICH. Felix is cool on Tony's book.
We need to thread more because Tony loves science and Felix knows about science and we can be science bros. He's curious about Felix's universe, mostly about technology levels because he loves that, but he's also interested in the development of a human race somewhere other than Earth.
He doesn't have a very strong impression of Felix yet, beyond him being the kind of guy who'll make a bro a sandwich and who seems to dig science, so so far so good.
I don't think Tony realized how much he cared about Coulson until the Avengers, and then Coulson died and he was like "WELL FUCK" and now... camp is happening. SO THERE IS A LOT OF STUFF GOING ON WITH HIM RE:COULSON LET ME MAKE A LIST.
1. Coulson is not dead. This is... cool. Except it might mean someone lied to him. MOST LIKELY FURY and god if it turns out Fury lied to them to manipulate them so many tables are getting thrown.
2. Coulson and Loki. Tony makes himself angry by thinking of Tony and Coulson interacting, he... rationally, can sort of understand why both Coulson and Clint have been amicable towards Loki, he knows they've been trapped with him for a year and he knows that being openly hostile would have ended up badly for everyone. BUT he doesn't understand why this has continued, Tony figures that with him and cap they could if not beat Loki, at least be enough of a deterrent so Coulson and Clint could cut all ties.
He also hates HAAATES Coulson's reasoning. "OH LOKI HASN'T KILLED ANYONE IN A YEAR IT'S FINE GUYS" In Tony's view Loki is a criminal and a mass murderer and he needs to be locked up forever, so every time BUT IT'S BEEN A YEAR comes up he just wants to shoot Loki in the face. He's also very annoyed by people telling him to stay away from Loki, because he suspects very very strongly that if Loki attacks him, people will blame him for it. As if "Loki is insane" excuses random violent behavior.
3. TONY'S PTSD. Tony still hasn't quite forgiven Coulson for pushing him super early on, it's not something he feels like addressing at all even though he understands that Coulson pushed him out of concern and knows Coulson does what he thinks is best. HE'S LESS WARY NOW since Coulson seems to have decided to let him deal with it his own way. (And by dealing with it I mean slowly fall into an inability to function like a person.)
4. BARNES!11 This is actually a point he's pretty satisfied with. HE USED LOGIC ON COULSON AND IT WORKED OKAY YAY. He's happy Coulson told him things and he's glad everyone seems to be less tense about it.
IDK WHAT ELSE HAS HAPPENED. Tony sees Coulson as one of his people and he gets protective of people who fall into that category. But also he doesn't know how to have an actual friendship with Coulson, before camp their relationship was strictly professional and I imagine they didn't see each other very often so this... having Coulson as a constant presence in his life isn't something Tony knows how to handle.
LOKI ASIDE Tony is actually really chill with Barton. He knows Barton knows shit, because you know Barton was on a rooftop and somehow he could tell him exactly what was happening all over. So he assumes Clint knows what's going on with him so he doesn't bother pretending that much around him. As far as Tony is concerned Barton's an Avenger and he trusts him implicitly. There is 0 conflict for him there. Clint is also one of Tony's people so he's protective and wants to help, except unlike Coulson, he sees Barton as a teammate and has less trouble with the idea of having him around.
He knows Barton is having an identity crisis and that he has a complex and apparently doesn't consider himself a hero but he has faith he'll get over it. You don't get to have a complex after saving the world from an alien invasion. AND ALSO HE'S REALLY HAPPY NATASHA IS HERE NOW BECAUSE NATASHA SPEAKS BARTON. EVERYTHING WILL BE OKAY NOW.
ON THE LOKI THING he's a lot more understanding of Clint's situation than he is of Coulson's. Clint got mind-controlled and Tony touched the memory flower and if he were getting any sleep he'd probably had nightmares about it. And also he was dealing with Loki on his own for a year, and god that have to have sucked (Tony feels vaguely guilty about that because he was in camp before and let that happen and that's terrible.) So he understands that being polite to Loki was Clint's only choice. He doesn't understand why he's STILL being polite to Loki but he's less of a hissycat about it than he is about Coulson.
IN SUMMARY, Tony is comfortable around Clint, has Loki issues but that's understandable. And he'll just flop on Clint's bed and eat his food and make him weapons.
TONY WAS HONESTLY HAPPY TO SEE HER AND THEN SHE PUNCHED HIM IN THE FACE OH MY GOD
Okay first Tony was relieved when Natasha showed up because CLINT NEEDS HELP and they are obviously happier when they're together. So yes, good. Also he welcomes sanity. The only problem is that he can't read Natasha at all, so she makes him kind of nervous.
IN GENERAL he was very surprised by her reaction to Barnes and assumes that she either worked for HYDRA in the past or was part of a Winter Soldier mission or something because that's the only way he can explain it to himself. He's not super worried, though, because he trusts her judgment and is pretty confident she'll be able to tell that Barnes is harmless.
He was not surprised at all by her reaction to Loki and loves her a little for it. Tony is in the Anti-Loki Team too and is generally annoyed at a lot of people's attitude towards him. So having someone show up and go GOD WHY HAVEN'T YOU KILLED THAT DUDE YET is great, THANK U AGENT.
ON THE LACK OF SLEEP SHE PUNCHED HIM IN THE FACE. Tony doesn't know how to deal with concern or... whatever it is that's happened. SO IN A WAY GETTING PUNCHED IN THE FACE IS PREFERABLE.
He's slowly falling into PTSD and has been since New York, but he doesn't how to deal with it so he's just staying up longer hours and tinkering and being Really Bad at Coping. He's very unlikely to tell Natasha about any of it, but he figures he won't have to since TRAINED ASSASSIN SPY.
YOU ARE SO COOL LET'S BE FRIENDS AND MOVE IN TOGETHER AND GET MARRIED
Tony just loves robots, robots are reliable and trustworthy and with a few exceptions Tony just likes them better than people. He'd never met one as advanced as David so he's just thrilled. (JARVIS is a genius, but he's not programmed to be human, I assume he has some emotional range since he does manage to sound alarmed in IM3. But it is pretty muted and I don't think he gets stressed or questions himself.)
So far what he's picked up is that David is pretty much human as far as emotion goes, but still seems to be tied to his programming. He gets that David doesn't wanna discuss his rights and won't address them again, he sees no point in pushing it and he really wants David to like him.
WORTH NOTING. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME TONY ACTUALLY WANTS TO BE LIKED. HE NORMALLY DOESN'T CARE AT ALL. In that thread when Tony thought "technopath" he was sort of giddy but somehow "synthetic" made him much more excited like god you're so cool. And he's more curious about David as a person than about whatever he's made of, but buuut after it was clear David didn't wanna go into human rights he figured asking for specs would somehow be less upsetting than "what's your favorite color?"
Anyway, he's trying to figure out how to address him. He's not wary at all about him. If David handed him a drink he'd drink it, and I don't think he'd be terribly wary even if he found out about Prometheus because like I said somewhere above, Tony understands AI, he'd think David was following his programming. Either an order or gone through a loophole in an order, which he could understand as malicious, but man if you're making an artificial person, smarter than everyone else, capable of human emotions, and you're not gonna treat them like a person, you better at least program them so they can't poison people.
GOD SORRY THIS DOESN'T MAKE MUCH SENSE BUT TONY IS HAPPY PLEASE BE MY BUDDY DAVID.
ALSO TONY SUPER WANTS TO HAVE DAVID PLAY CHESS AGAINST JARVIS BECAUSE HE FIGURES THEY CAN BOTH CALCULATE THE BEST POSSIBLE MOVE AND HE WANTS TO WITNESS A PERFECT CHESS GAME.
CHILDREN'S PROGRAMMING HAS CHANGED A LOT SINCE MY TIME WHAT THE HELL
That thread was Tony's first encounter with camp's dickery, so he had no idea of how to handle it. He also felt somewhat responsible for Takeru because experiencing someone else's memory is intrusive and awful and oh god why did this happen SO HE FIGURED HE'D DISTRACT HIM WITH TOYS.
THAT SAID once he got to distract him with cool toys he felt a lot better about it. He likes Takeru, he understands he's a kid who was given too much responsibility at a young age. Under any other circumstances he would've had trouble taking him seriously because POWER RANGER, buuut since he actually experienced his memory he can't be a cynic about it.
Also he was initially curious about their paper magic, but knowing he can't learn it diminished his interest. He's childish like that. And he doesn't have the resources to make a fun suit for children yet, but he will eventually and Takeru will get first flight. TONY STARK: SOMEHOW NOT BEING TERRIBLE AT TEENAGERS.
Tony thinks Ultron is a cool name and is disappointed it belongs to a crazy robot assassin. WHICH IS UNRELATED TO ANYTHING but I thought I'd mention it.
That said, Tony is honestly 100% thrilled about Victor being someone that exists, not just because he's a cyborg kid (which is awesome, let's be honest) but also because somehow he was raised by a super-villain and grew up wanting to be a super-hero??? That tells him a lot about Victor's character and personality and he really likes it. He's also really curious about how Victor works since he's more technologically advanced than anything Tony has seen and Tony loves technology. But he doesn't want to make him uncomfortable and there's really no comfortable way to go "SO CAN I SEE YOUR CIRCUITS"
OKAY OKAY SKIPPING TO THIS ONE BECAUSE IT IS ACTUALLY PRETTY SIMPLE
Tony can't stand that Loki isn't locked up somewhere. He has no sympathy at all for him, he doesn't care that he has OH NO I'M ADOPTED issues or that his dad was a dick or that he has apparently not killed anyone in a year. Because everyone has issues, issues do not justify genocide, and not killing people should be the default. Loki doesn't deserve praise or respect for not killing holy shit.
So he thinks Loki should be locked up, SADLY he is aware the odds or getting him locked up are low at best and is actually hoping really hard Banner will show up because having the Hulk around would do wonders for his stress levels.
ANGER ASIDE. He actually has a healthy amount of fear, he knows he's no match for him outside the suit and as much as he hates to admit it, he knows that if there was a fight things would probably not go his way. His suit isn't that sturdy and he's seen Thor fight. THIS WOULDN'T STOP HIM FROM PICKING A FIGHT BUT AT LEAST HE'S SELF-AWARE.
Also he's very adamant about not letting Loki see him back down or afraid. So he puts up a front every single time they interact, he'll be a little sarcastic shit at him and won't show any fear because SCREW YOU LOKI. He refuses to let Loki have any sort of hold over him.
IDK WHAT ELSE. BASICALLY LOKI SMELLS STAY AWAY FROM HIM. ALSO I LOVE YOU AND THEY NEED TO BE FORCED TO INTERACT BECAUSE I WANT TERRIBLE THINGS HAPPENING
